Bio

Zampia Betty Mavropoulou is a Greek composer based in Hannover. In her works, she blends her own compositional language sometimes taking elements from traditional Greek music or other various music styles developing them into form shapes, musical motifs and harmony. Often inspired by other art forms such as paintings and visual arts she tries to develop a hybrid notation system between the traditional notation and a graphical/tabulator notation, sometimes also derived by hand, especially with charcoal.

She holds a Bachelor Degree in Informatics and Telematics and a classical guitar diploma. After she showed interest in composition where she took lessons with Nikos Drelas. That led her to the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover, where she is currently finishing her Bachelor degree in composition. She studies instrumental composition under Prof. Aaron Cassidy and Prof. Gordon Williamson and electronic music composition under Joachim Heintz.

Zampia has actively participated the last years in various masterclasses and festivals, working with composers such as Beat Furrer, Eun-Hwa Cho, Milica Djordjević, Peter Gahn, Joanna Bailie, Sara Glojnarić, Hans Thomalla etc.
She has collaborated with various ensembles such as ELISION ensemble, ensemble Musikfabrik, Ensemble Quillo, Trio Catch etc. and with soloist such as Florentin Ginot, Brian Archinal, Sarah Saviet, Jean-François Laporte etc.
During her studies she participated in the n[o]ice! project composing a short opera and also collaborated with the Hochschulchor writing a piece for acapella solo soprano and choir – Abschied (2023).  In August 2024, she took part in the Virtual Brass Academy with Musikfabrik, where she composed the miniature In Between.
Her tape piece Gefängnis (2023) was awarded second prize in the Klaus Huber Composition Competition.
She was awarded with the Deutschlandstipendium and the „Landesstipendium Niedersachsen“.
